When we decide to miss the doctor

May 4, 2010

temperatureIn many situations when you feel that something is wrong with our health, we prefer not to call their doctor. Heal yourself, sometimes not sure we take the right measures. A self-treatment can be dangerous and harm rather than help.
1. Never give themselves medicines for children under 12 years. Treatment of the child’s body is different from that of adults. So – do nothing to consult a pediatrician.
2. Self-medication and the most common cold can be harmful to pregnant and nursing women.
3. With increasing age, even checked and taken over the years drugs may act differently now. Therefore periodically visit their family doctor – let him decide whether to continue the same medication or change them. With age the body processes change their speed, and that means, ie and change the speed of chemical reactions. Chronic diseases are emerging and permanent medicines that are used for their treatment may not be compatible with self-designated medicines.
4. Do not give and take by neighbors and family councils to adopt one or other medicines. This is too much responsibility!
5. Do not fall victim to (only) suggestion – otherwise you will always “find” a malingerer.
6. Self-medication is permitted only in mild illness, whose cause you are well.
7. If you have any doubt of the correctness of diagnosis or the usual problem occurs in another more particular way, seek immediate medical attention.
8. If after three days despite treatment undertaken by you will improve the condition and symptoms are aggravated, it is time to finish self-treatment and to contact a specialist.
9. Try taking only one drug. Many drugs interact each other in different ways sometimes are not compatible.
10. Always accept only those drugs whose action is well known you are not “thrown” on new vehicles which are advertised and still have not been verified.
11. Do not experiment with drugs from the medicine chest, which are not written for you.
12. Read carefully and preparations leaflets to strictly observe the prescribed recommendations. Do not hesitate to ask the pharmacy pharmacist how to take medicine.
13. But remember that the pharmacist can not change indicated by the physician medication!
14. Periodically review the medicines in your home medicine chest. Discard those with expired and the other store in the dark and dry place.
15. The main rule of self-treatment is not harmful to themselves!
