Psychology protection – two-edged sword

Jan 22, 2010

psychologyMany people perceive called. psychological protection as the ability to adequately respond to aggression and dignified exit from the conflict. With such a skill no one is born – it is made over the years and must be recognized, even then not for everyone. But to maintain a sense of Conditions of even those who are not able to communicate very well, there are protective mechanisms of the psyche – so called. primary protection. These are ways to respond to traumatic situations that we need to maintain self-assessment and to restore their self-esteem. Psychological defense mechanisms are universal for all, they are out of our nature – that are actually patterns of behavior and reaction to one or other traumatic situation. The primary psychological defense is two-edged sword. In its apparent benefit (the ability to accept painful situation without loss of self-assessment), however, there are two flaws. First, psychological defense does not alter the order of things, it only delivered us from the anxiety and discomfort, and second – it works in such a way that distorts reality in favor of our emotional stability.
To play hide and seek: “Nothing happened”
The mechanism of negation operates on the principle “if you say something, then it is not in case”. Adverse events not considered to exist. Denial is often a first reaction of the irreversible events – death or illness. It can be faced and in family relations: We think it is less painful blind eye to the problem than to put the matter even though rebrom. Can often hear the question: Where the child’s parents watch-junkie in the family safely outside? Why did not they pay attention to the alarming signs? The answer is fairly simple – because the work mechanism of denial – the parents do not allow the thought that something similar could happen in their family.
“I forgot”
Special reasoned “forgetfulness” of the traumatic situation is called the ejection of psychologists. When this can not just forget the obvious trouble – sometimes from memory is “pushing” the foreign assistance which we received at a critical moment for us. Suppression is often characteristic of situations involving money or debts.
“I am a fool”
One of the consequences of repression is called. projection. Pushed information (or forgotten experience) out of consciousness but remain subconscious level. And periodically what is suppressed, began to appear precisely in the form of projection. One begins to assign foreign experience, thoughts, motives. May be designed not only negative but positive emotions. In the broad sense we all use projection to explain the world – how to understand others, if we find similar sentiments in yourself?
“Everything will explain”
Sometimes we think it is easier to eat a frog, rather than admit their own mistakes. And it must be recognized, especially when there is a mechanism known as. rationalization. It allows us to find and fully compos mentis worthy reasons to explain his actions unacceptable. Which is more convenient: to admit that we do not want to take the job because of insufficient experience or to believe that “everything in this country happens to relationships? Rationalization allows us to be surrounded by stereotypes, to spend a minimum of effort for the analysis of incoming information, but feel d’Artagnan.
“I am not this”
Quite “transparent” way of protection are reactive entities, ie replacement of their own feelings with the opposite. Classic example is the behavior of children who seek to inverse feelings, because they were considered shameful. So they can laugh at a movie that produces tears or rude with MSM (and) I read that really wanted to courting.
